Team | Run Line | Moneyline | Total |
---|---|---|---|

Texas Rangers | -1.5 (+140) | -154 | U 7.5 (-115) |
Gausman Comes Off 7 Shutout Innings
Kevin Gausman has had two bad starts this season in which he gave up 6 earned runs. One was two starts ago against the Rays. The other was against the Yankees on April 27 when he threw 2.2 innings. In his last start, however, he threw 7 shutout innings against the Padres, walking none, striking out 9, and giving up 3 hits. His ERA is just over 4, but he’s pitched better than that.
For the Rangers against Gausman, Tucker Barnhart is 3 for 9 with 2 doubles and a home run. Adolis Garcia is 3 for 13 with a home run. Jonah Heim is 3 for 15 with a double and a home run. Marcus Semien is 6 for 28 with 2 doubles, a triple, and a home run.
The Blue Jays looked like they were finally getting it together after they swept the Padres, but they turned around and got swept by the Rays to fall under .500 again.
Classic DeGrom is Back
The Rangers’ g of Jacob deGrom to a $185 million contract that spanned his mid-to-late 30s looked like a predictable disaster when he got injured early in the 2023 season. He’d had a litany of injuries in his last several years with the Mets. After Tommy John surgery, whatever they got from him was a plus.
Now, after missing most of the 2023-24 seasons, he is back and looks like he’s rediscovered his magic from winning two Cy Young Awards with New York and is one of the best pitchers in MLB.
He has a 2.33 ERA. In May, he’s thrown 25 innings, given up 16 hits, 4 earned runs, walked 5, and struck out 29. He’s also taken his foot off the gas slightly from before his injury when he was consistently throwing 99+ miles per hour, in the interest of maintaining his health and taking his starts.
For the Blue Jays against deGrom, Vladimir Guerrero Jr. is the only one with a hit. He’s 1 for 3 with a single.
The only Rangers’ bat who is performing up to expectations is Corey Seager. He has an .866 OPS with 6 homers. The lack of offense sparked changes to the coaching staff, with Bret Boone brought on board. There has not been a significant improvement, though he’s only been there a short while.
Blue Jays vs Rangers Pick: DeGrom Maintains His Rejuvenation
The Blue Jays did not build on their sweep over the Padres, and they’re not hitting. The Rangers aren’t hitting much better, but deGrom has been so good recently that Texas should not only win, but they should win by at least 2 runs.
