Logan Webb Hopes to Rebound From Shaky Start vs Royals

Logan Webb has been one of the majors’ most understatedly good starters for several years. Since establishing himself as a full-time big leaguer in 2021, he has a bWAR of 18.9. He finished 11th in the NL Cy Young Award voting in 2022. In 2023, he was second; in 2023, he was sixth.

This season, he is tied for the MLB lead in starts with 11. He’s thrown 67.1 innings and surrendered 65 hits and 20 earned runs, walking 16 and striking out 74. His ERA is an excellent 2.67.

Against Detroit, he hopes to rebound from a shaky start against the Royals in which he went 4 innings, gave up 10 hits and 6 runs, 3 of which were earned.

For the Tigers, Gleyber Torres is 1 for 5 with a home run when facing Webb. Javier Baez is 1 for 3 with a single. Justyn-Henry Malloy is 1 for 3 with a double. No other Tigers have hits against Webb in limited opportunities.

Heliot Ramos leads the Giants with an .817 OPS and 9 homers. Wilmer Flores has 10 homers and a .761 OPS. Matt Chapman continues to struggle at .218, though he has 9 homers. Willy Adames is still trying to find his way after g a huge contract. He’s batting .205 with a .617 OPS and 5 homers.

Flaherty Tries to Regain His 2024 Form

Jack Flaherty has a 4.39 ERA so far in 2025. He has been shaky since mid-April, though he is still giving the Tigers innings and keeping them in games. In his last two starts, he has pitched slightly better, tossing a combined 12.1 innings, giving up 8 hits, and 5 earned runs, striking out 14.

The Giants’ Adames is 3 for 12 with 2 homers against Flaherty. No other Giant has had notable success against the Tigers’ righty. Chapman is 1 for 7. Mike Yastrzemski is 1 for 5. LaMonte Wade Jr. is 1 for 3 with a double.

A key factor in the Tigers’ rise to the top of MLB has been spurred by comeback seasons from Spencer Torkelson and Baez. Torkelson has an .881 OPS and 13 homers. Baez has a .789 OPS and 6 homers while playing multiple positions including center field. Riley Greene has an .824 OPS with 12 homers. Torres has been very good with an .806 OPS and 5 homers.

Giants vs Tigers Pick: Webb Will Outpitch Flaherty and SF Puts Up Runs

Webb has been very good all season, and that will continue in this marquee matchup. Flaherty has been serviceable, but nothing more. The Giants hit too well for Flaherty to hold them down.
