The 2025 Stanley Cup Finals have already gone better than last year for the Edmonton Oilers.
The Oilers landed a dramatic game one success on Wednesday, achieving something that they failed to do 12 months ago, and taking a lead in the series against the Florida Panthers.
However, there is a long way to go before they can celebrate sporting immortality, and the pressure will be on in Game 2 on Friday evening at Rogers Place.

Oilers vs. Panthers Game 1 Recap
If Game One in the Stanley Cup finals is anything to go by, then this year’s series could be a thrilling climax to the NHL season. The Florida Panthers looked every inch the champions that they are in the opening two periods at Rogers Place, scoring twice in the opening frame, before adding a third in the second.
However, iconic comebacks can often shape playoff encounters, and it will be fascinating to see how important the comeback effort produced by the Oilers in the final period is when the series reaches its conclusion later this month.
Leon Draisaitl was once again the man for the big occasion for the Oilers, as he scored twice. His most important effort was ed in a power-play in overtime to secure a memorable comeback win.
However, there was a sense of this being a missed opportunity for the Panthers, who had led 3-1 in the second period before their advantage was wiped out by the home side.
Sam Bennett made franchise history earlier in the game after netting twice to set the record for the most post-season goals in Panthers history. Interestingly, eleven of his efforts have come on the road.
Oilers vs. Panthers Game 2 Picks
The pressure only increases when the teams collide for the second time this week at Rogers Place on Friday. But, the pressure will be on the Panthers, as a 2-0 series disadvantage will be hard to turn around based on the performances that we have seen from the Oilers this term.
For a long time, Florida appeared to have the measure of their opponents in game one, and that could be enough evidence to suggest that they won’t make the same mistakes again in Edmonton on Friday.
